Solar

How much maintenance do Solar Panels need?

One of the great things about solar PV systems is that they’re low maintenance – you’ll just need to keep the panels relatively clean and ensure trees don’t begin to overshadow them. In the UK, panels that are tilted at 15° or more have the additional benefit of being cleaned by rainfall to ensure optimal performance. Debris is more likely to accumulate if you have ground mounted panels, as opposed to roof mounted panels.

Once fitted, we will leave details of any maintenance checks that you should carry out from time to time to ensure everything is working properly. This will include details of the main inverter fault signals and key trouble-shooting guidance. Keeping a close eye on your system and the amount of electricity it’s generating (alongside the weather conditions) will familiarise you with what to expect and alert you to when something might be wrong.

Panels should last 25 years or more, however, the inverter may need replacing some time during this period.

How much do solar panels cost to install?

The average domestic solar PV system is 4kWp and costs approximately £5,000 (including VAT at 5%). Commercial solar PV systems can vary hugely in size and, therefore, in cost.

Some considerations when looking at the cost of a solar PV system are:

  • The more electricity the system can generate, the more it costs, but the more it could save;
  • Larger systems are usually more cost effective than smaller systems (up to 4kWp);
  • PV panels are all roughly the same price per kWp, but PV tiles cost much more than a typical system made up of panels
  • Panels that are built into a roof are much more expensive than those that sit on top of a roof.

Panels should last 25 years or more, however, the inverter may need replacing some time during this period.

Will you help me to apply for the Feed-In Tariff?

Once your system is installed and signed off, we can assist you in your application to the Feed-In Tariff scheme. The Feed-In Tariff application is submitted to your electricity provider, and the time it will take to process your application varies from provider to provider.

Solar Battery

What capacity batteries are available?

Every household has its own very specific energy needs. That’s why the sonnenBatterie was developed as a multi-stage storage system that can be adapted to the most diverse energy needs. With storage sizes ranging from 2 kWh to 16 kWh the sonnenBatterie will power a detached house, a multi-family house or an apartment block. The sonnenBatterie’s energy capacity can be individually expanded in blocks of 2 kWh – should you ever feel the need to increase the power storage in your house.

Can I use a solar battery for commercial premises?

Should you ever require more power – for example when you are running a business – multiple sonnenBatterie can be set up as a cascading cluster. Thereby increasing the capacity and power of the sonnenBatterie up to a maximum of 48 kWh. More than enough to satisfy the energy needs of your business.

How much does a solar battery installation cost?

A Solar Battery installation typically starts from around £5,000, however please get in touch so we can talk through the options available to you right now.

Biomass Heating

How does Biomass heating work?

Wood is hardly a new fuel for heating properties, but the technology has improved considerably to make it more efficient. Modern wood-burning heating systems convert up to 90% of the fuel into useful heat, and can heat water and supply radiators.

Biomass boilers can replace oil or gas boilers to heat hot water and radiators (or underfloor heating). They burn wood pellets, wood chips, logs or other forms of biomass.

How do I maintain a Biomass Heating system?

A biomass heating system must be kept fuelled and clean. You must top up your boiler with wood fuel to ensure it never runs out; the frequency of top ups will depend on the size of your boiler and how much fuel you are using for your heating. Wood pellets can be ordered in a wide range of quantities, to suit each user’s fuel consumption and storage space. To ensure your system is eligible for RHI, your fuel must be purchased from an approved list of sustainable wood fuel providers.

How much does a Biomass Heating system cost?

A domestic biomass system will cost £5,000 – £25,000 (including installation, flue, fuel store and VAT at 5%), depending on the make, size and level of automation of the boiler. Commercial biomass heating systems can vary hugely in size and, therefore, in cost.

Electric Vehicle Charging

How much can I get toward an Electric Vehicle Chargepoint?

Get up to £500 off your EV charge point with the OLEV grant

The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (often referred to as the OLEV grant) is a government grant provided by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles. It offers electric vehicle owners up to £500 off the cost of buying and installing an EV charging point at home – you would then pay the remainder of the cost to your installer. Just Energy Solutions has been approved by OLEV as an accredited electric vehicle charge point installer, as is eligible to apply for the Homecharge grant on your behalf. Complete terms and conditions can be found on the OLEV website.
